Amos 5 CJV
14 Seek good and not evil, so that you will survive. Then Adonai ELOHEI-Tzva'ot will be with you, as you say he is. 15 Hate evil, love good, and uphold justice at the gate. Maybe Adonai ELOHEI-Tzva'ot will take pity on the survivors of Yosef.
1 Corinthians 13 CJV
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Romans 12 CJV
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
I always read I Corinthians 13 and am reminded that I have a long way to go...
ReplyDeleteActually all of those really put me in my place. Thanks for posting. What provoked you?
rejoicing in the conviction that this brings my heart. i have much to learn.
ReplyDeleteprovoke is the correct word. i was provoked to write a big spheel about these verses and end by asking many questions with answers that are not simple and then i was too tired to try and focus it all down to a comprehendable form.
ReplyDeletethe main question is, what does/do these verses mean by evil? OT style they would kill idolaters and yet we have progressed to recognizing that we should preserve the sacredness of life and so we dont go around stoning idolaters... or maybe we are to scared to admit our own idolatry issues in the light of how Yeshua taught the commands.
also, how do we love people who are making evil decisions? i know i am not a perfect being and yet i can not sit and abide sin...
how do i honor Gd with in relationships. How do i speak the truth in love when i hate evil so much?
talk about a struggle!!
