A new friend of mine gave me a generic 'who i am in Christ' list of Bible verses. As it was the Tikkun conference though it was changed to 'who i am in Messiah.' Gota love it!
Every time i get a list like this im skeptical of it. The way it's set up is too simple. Bible verse on the left side, description on the right. something like this...
John 1:12 - I am G-ds child.
Eph 1:13 - I am a saint.
It's just TOO simple. So, what i do is go through and check them to make sure the summary isn't over simplifying the verse. Here's a bit of what i got.
John 1:12 - i am G-ds child(CJV)
Such a great verse guys! you know the beginning of john... "in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with G-d, the Word was G-d..." It goes on in v10 "He was in the world - the world came to be through him - yet the world did not know him. v11 He came to his own homeland, yet his own people did not receive him. v12 (the kicker) But to as many as did receive him, to those who put their trust in his person and power, he gave the right to become children of G-d, v13 not because of bloodline, physical impulse or human intention, but because of G-d."
I can not claim to be G-ds child unless i receive Yeshua and put my trust in his person and power. Also, the line "not because of bloodline" is encouraging as a gentile because its more confirmation that we can be adopted as children of G-d!! great, great!!
Col 1:14 - i have been redeemed and forgiven of all my sins. (CJV)
this can be a hard to believe because of personal shame and guilt... so, lets take an extra careful look at this one!
v14 "It is through His son that we have redemption - that is, our sins have been forgiven. v15 He is the visible image of the invisible G-d. He is supreme over all creation, v16 because in connection with him were created all things - in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, lordships, rulers or authorities - they have all been created through him and for him. v17 He existed before all things, and he holds everything together."
This relates back to John 1 right... "by Him all things were made." Only the supreme being would have authority to condemn and redeem. Col 1:12 also says that the Father has made us fit to share in the inheritance of his people in the light. V9 of John 1 talks about Yeshua being the true light.
Because of the Father I have an inheritance with the people in the light which is redemption and forgiveness of my (and my families) sins.
Rom 8:1 - i am free forever from condemnation.
"therefore, there is no longer any condemnation awaiting those who are in union with the Messiah Yeshua." We can tie this in with the Col verse... Because Yeshua is king and the ultimate judge when i have accepted his authority (spiritually and physically) as such i am accepted as a son of the Father, therefor i am no longer condemned but can be in union with Messiah through his sacrifice.
great stuff hu? im trying to look at these verses more and more to understand who i am in Yeshua. So, i can be confident in the calling i have been given. praise the L-rd for the refining fire! may it be all for His glory!
